Wilbur Cook, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, at his son's residence in Pooler. He was born on January 4, 1935, in Reidsville and had lived in Tattnall County most of his life.
Wilbur retired honorably in the United States Navy serving 20 plus years and was recognized as a distinguished Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. His military service exemplified his courage, patriotism, and selflessness.
After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Cook went to work at Federal Pacific where he also retired after many years of service.
Outside of work, Wilbur enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and pursuing his hobbies. He was a long-time member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where he found solace and spiritual fulfillment.
One of Wilbur's beloved hobbies was competing at Turkey Shoots. Even in his 80's, he remained a formidable competitor and would often emerge victorious. This talent showcased not only his skill but also his indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.
In addition to his exceptional career achievements and military service, Wilbur cherished moments spent with family and friends. He cherished 65 beautiful years of marriage to Emily Findley Cook until her passing in February 2023. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Hodge, Lee, Vernon, and Howard Cook.
Wilbur leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish their memories together. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Ann Cook of Pooler; his daughter Cynthia Ann Cook and her husband Greg Jones of Woodland, CO; seven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects at the visitation service, which will be held at Low Country Cremation & Burial on January 7, 2024. The visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day, January 8, 2024, commencing at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment will follow the services in the Reidsville City Cemetery where Military Honors will be rendered by the US Navy.
