Wiley L. Morris, , of Prudenville passed away on Monday December 24, 2012 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. Wiley was born on July 24, 1937 in Pensacola, Florida to Walter and Dorothy(Wiggins) Morris. Wiley served in the Navy . Wiley was married on October 29, 1965 in Durand to Joyce E. Kindel. He has been Pastor at several churches over the years and is presently Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church of Fairview. He worked as a school counselor at Grayling and Rose City Public Schools, taught courses and served as a Dean of Students at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College and Pensacola Christian College, both in Florida, presently Wiley was substitute teaching at Roscommon Elementary School and had previously substituted at St. Helen and Rose City. Surviving Mr. Morris are his loving wife of 47 years Joyce E. Morris of Prudenville; son - Matt (Karen) Morris of Lebanon, IL; 2 daughters - Melody Morris of Milan, and Stephanie Hoeppner of Houghton Lake; four grandchildren - Evan, Elland, Easton, and Ashlee . Wiley was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel Howard Morris; one brother, and three sisters,. Funeral Services for Wiley L. Morris will be conducted at 1:00PM Saturday December 29, 2012 from the Roscommon Elementary School Gymnasium with Rev. Doug Blackwell officiating. Interment will be in North Star Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday December 28, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel. Memorial Contribution in memory of Wiley are asked to be directed to Calvary Baptist Church of Fairview or the Roscommon Elementary School. I am saddened to read this. Pastor Morris and his wife were at the church I was baptized at in Mt Morris Michigan. I was young....about 11 years old I believe at the time. My parents (Norris and JoAnn) were friends with Pastor and his wife. If I remember correctly, Pastor was quite the ping pong player and us young people tried and tried to beat him.....but were never successful. Anyway, the reason I did a search for him was Pastor Morris was the first to speak to me about some day considering the ministry. As I grew up and graduated I went into the military. Then another career and moving about, raising a family etc. Looking back, I can see God's leading the whole way. I was discipleship program while stationed in England, became a Sunday School teacher and deacon in several churches as we moved about. Not long ago....I began Bible School classes as I was filling the pulpit for our church after our Pastor resigned. This last Sunday, the church called a business meeting, and though we've had several candidates over the last two years, God apparently had other plans as the Church elected me as their Pastor. I was hoping to make contact with Pastor Morris and tell him thanks for the influence he had on me at such an early age. (Maybe he already knows?) Anyway, to his family..... Pastor Morris touched many lives. I'm so thankful to have known him. May God comfort you as we wait our redeemer's coming and the great reunion we all look forward to!
