Wilfred Goldstick, long-time resident of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, passed away on November 11, 2012. He was born Joseph Zev Wilfred Goldstick on June 5, 1923 in Toronto, Canada to Maurice and Regina (nee Baum) Goldstick, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1944. He enlisted and served in the Canadian Army Corps of Engineers during World War II as a First Lieutenant. At the end of the war, he wed Marianne Lourie, his college sweetheart. They moved to New York City in 1946 where he founded Sigma Electric Company. The company, the original Ampex dealer in New York City, serviced electronic appliances through the 1950's and evolved to manufacture language laboratories for schools as Sigma Educational Products.
The Goldsticks moved to Englewood Cliffs in 1957. Wilf was elected to serve on the Englewood Cliffs Board of Education in the 1970's and won more votes than any other candidate prior to that time. He also served two non-consecutive terms as president of Temple Sinai of Bergen County where he was a member for over 30 years. He was known for donating his audio engineering skills to record bar and bat mitzvahs for synagogue families and contributed his time and talents to design and install the building's sound system. In 1991 he and Marianne became founding members of Chavurah Beth Shalom in Alpine, NJ. A trumpet player and an aficionado of early jazz, he is remembered for his rich shofar blowing every Rosh Hashanah. All who knew him found him to be a mensch and he is sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marianne, and children, Toba Goldstick of N.Y.C, Naomi and Gary Rosner of Baltimore, MD, and Jonathan and Karen Goldstick of White Plains, NY, and his grandchildren Alex and Evan Goldstick, and Joshua and Molly Rosner. His sister, Sylvia Kamin predeceased him.
