Willette Holland Lawing, 94, of the Glenwood Community, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2025 while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in McDowell County on June 11, 1931 to the late John Carlton “Slim” Holland and Annie Belle Moore Holland.
A pillar of her community, Willette worked as the Postmaster in Glenwood for 33 years. She was also a cherished member of Glenwood Baptist Church where she served as a church musician for over 65 years. Following her retirement, she assisted her late husband with L&R Country Store. She served for 60 years as the Correspondence Secretary for the Glenwood Alumni Association. Granny was loving and devoted to her grandkids and great-grandkids. A very selfless lady, she was an encourager and cheerleader for many of the children in the community. Monday evenings were special in Willette’s home as she hosted supper gatherings for family and friends for a number of years. She was also an avid sports fan. Known as a true Proverbs 31 woman, Willette will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Carroll Lawing, and five brothers and sisters, Joanna Elliott, Peggy Ledford, Franklin Holland, Ronald Holland, and Dr. Gene Holland; and a great grandson, Jasper Lawing.
She is survived by her three children, Harrill Lawing (Donna), David Lawing (Anita), and Carol Ramsey (Benny); nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at the Beam Celebration Center. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Revs. Jim Brewer and Seth Wachtel officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Granny’s caregivers and CarePartners Hospice & Palliative Care- McDowell for the quality, compassion, and friendship shown to Willette and her family. Thank you, Angie, Grace, Allison, and Ashlee.
