William Alvin “Buck” McLendon, age 92, of Hazlehurst passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 at his residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Mr. Buck was born May 13, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Elaine Freeman McLendon, daughter, Penny McLendon Tillman, and parents, Roscoe & Essie Mae Floyd. He was retired, with 20 years of service, from the United States Navy, having been stationed in Hawaii for several years before moving his family back to Hazlehurst where he farmed for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst and a volunteer fireman with the Graham Fire Department for many years.
Survivors include his son, Mark A. (Kim) McLendon of Hazlehurst and son-in-law, Troy Tillman. Grandchildren, Ashley McLendon, Chace McLendon, and Tyler Tillman and one great grandson, Baylor McLendon, also survive.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 21, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Graham Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brad Waters officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Chace McLendon, Tyler Tillman, Troy Tillman, Ronnie Harrell, Doug McNeal, and Hal Cox.
The McLendon family expresses their sincere appreciation to Hospice of South Georgia, especially Lisa, Jessy, Caleb, Misty, Donna, and Rhonda, for their care and support given to Mr. Buck and his family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
