William Abercrombie Obituary

Odessa, Texas - William Thaxton Abercrombie, 86, from Odessa, Texas, died November 12 in Odessa, Texas. Lovingly known as Dad, Papa, Bill, and Catfish. He was born on July 21,1937 in Tucumcari NM to M.J. "Jack" and Dora May Abercrombie.

He moved from NM to Arizona then on to Oklahoma and was always proud to be an Okie. After graduating HS he served in the US Navy and was a proud veteran and Trump supporter. He bled red, white, and blue. He loved fishing, hunting, fast boats, fast cars, guns and most of all listening to music and being with his family. Dad was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and rarely missed watching a game.

He met the love of his life Bonnie in Alpine, Texas and courted her for 2 weeks until he took her to OJ and made her his wife.

They lived in Alpine and had four children before moving on to Pecos, Texas where he worked for Duval-Penzoil Sulfur Mine until he retired. However, retiring was not an option for him because he always had to stay busy and use his many God given talents working on cars, trucks, boats, and building anything. There was nothing that he could not figure out. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends he left behind.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Abercrombie, his parents Jack and Dora Abercrombie, 3 brothers Pat, Jerry, and Gene Abercrombie and one granddaughter Adria.

He left behind 4 children: William T Abercrombie of Alpine, TX, Gary Abercrombie of Odessa, TX, Leisha Abercrombie Sanchez and fiancé Mike Haynes of Odessa, TX, and Karen and husband Mauro Armijo of Odessa, TX. He had 7 grandchildren: Adria, Ashley, Amy, Natasha, Jesse, Jeremy, and Theresa, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine.

Donations can be made in his memory to Home Hospice.
