William F. Ames

NAPLES – William F. Ames, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, surrounded by love. Born in Woburn, Mass., to the late William F. Ames and Gertrude M. (Linscott), Bill lived a life defined by curiosity, family, and quiet generosity.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Annie Ames; his daughter Christina and her sons Jacob Caras and Robert Ames; daughter Pamela (Radgowski), spouse Todd, and their children Zachary, Callan, and Evangeline; stepchildren Jane Abell, Kendra and Melissa Boccelli, Katie Grote and Bob Sawyer, Kyle and Teanna Grote,

Tom Grote and Rick Neal, 15 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by four of his sisters: Mary, Carolyn, Dorothy and Joan, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and beloved sister Julene.

A 1962 graduate of Woburn schools, Bill pursued engineering and worked at Avco-Everett Research Laboratory before joining MIT's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics in the Gas Turbine Laboratory. After retiring in 2002, he embraced Florida life - golfing, swimming, fixing things, and enjoying his Naples sea view.
