William Anslow Obituary

Anslow, William A.
BRUNSWICK - William A. Anslow, 62, died suddenly on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Oswego, N.Y., Bill was the loving husband for 38 years to his high school sweetheart, Christine M. Bidwell Anslow, and the son of William H. Anslow and Barbara E. Anthony Anslow of Guilderland. He resided in the Troy area most of his life, where he graduated from Troy High School and earned his associate degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Bill was a devoted family man, adored by his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, extended family, and chosen family. He held many titles in his life including coach, referee, off-ice official, umpire, and president of Armory Little League, but his favorite roles were being a husband, father, and Pop Pop.
He was also a respected professional, a civil engineer for the Albany County Highway Department, from which he recently retired after 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the N.Y.S. Association of Town Superintendents of Highways and the American Public Works Association.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and entertaining at his home, though coaching his sons' teams and enjoying hockey were close runner-ups. He was always the life of the party and a friend to all those he would meet. Even if he checked you into the boards on the ice, he'd be buying you a beer and chatting it up after the game.
At home, at work, and beyond, Bill always brought a smile to everyone's face. He was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at R.I.T., an off-ice official for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Bill was fondly known as "Flounder" to his TKE brotherhood, and "Rocket" to his Troy friends. He loved being outdoors, whether he was in the woods or his own backyard, where he took particular pride in his flowers and vegetable gardens. Most notably, he was an avid sports fan. He'll be remembered with a glass of Jameson in his hand while rooting for his favorite teams, the N.Y. Rangers, N.Y. Yankees, Miami Dolphins, and any team his grandsons played on.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife and parents include his children, Selena Skiba (Todd) of Brunswick, Billy Anslow-O'Rourke (Dan) of Astoria, and CJ Anslow (fiancé, Arielle Rozencwaig) of Manhattan; three grandchildren, Dylan, Brayden, and Jameson Skiba; his sisters, Barbara Anslow-Myers (Darrel), Suzanne Gunther (Joseph), Major General (Ret.) Patricia Anslow (Colonel (Ret.) Karen Gattis), and Kristin Anslow Kalson; his best friend who was like a brother to him, Philip Krause; his mother-in-law, Donna Bidwell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, David Bidwell, Cindy Paff (Tom), and Scott Bidwell (Bridget); many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his treasured dogs, Max and Oliver, as well as the late Patches.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 475 Pawling Avenue, Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Yanas, Pastor.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of William A. Anslow to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.

Chris and the Anslow family,
Bill was a great guy. I remember having great conversations with him on Tibbits Ave. He would keep an eye on my grandmother who lived across the street. Sorry for your loss, he will greatly missed.

Chris and the entire Anslow family,
The news of Bill's passing is difficult to comprehend. I always appreciated him taking timeout to shoot the breeze when he was outside doing lawn work or snow removal. He was a great guy and good neighbor. May your memories of him comfort you during this period of mourning. Deepest condolences to all.

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Billy. While I can´t say we were close friends, our paths would cross a couple times a year as a result of our mutual friendship with the Connells of Albia. He was a great guy whose company I always enjoyed. I´ll miss his broad smile and the warm handshake I got whenever we´d run into each other. Taken too soon. He will be missed.

I first met Bill while I was at the DOT Residency office in Voorheesville and then while working for the County in the private sector. He always has the interests of the county residents and his maintenance crews first and foremost. As a "can do" guy, Bill and I would almost always speak of our common frustrations of dealing with the government bureaucracy. I'll miss him as a voice of reason. Rest at peace my friend.

I am so sad to hear about the passing of my teammate Billy. We played H.S. football together and later high arc softball. Billy had a good heart and a great smile. I have not seen him in years but know if I did I would give him a bro hug. To all of Billy's family and friends my thoughts and prayers are with you. Too young, too good and much too soon. R.I.P. Billy.
