William Baglivio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

William Baglivio, 83, passed away November 15, 2025, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring at UF Health Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine with his wife, Susan, and his son, Michael, by his side.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 1, 1942, to Julia and Daniel Baglivio, and was educated at Lindenhurst High School in New York. He then attended the RCA Institutes in New York where he studied solid-state electronics, and that paved the way for his career in the then new field of biomedical engineering.

Known as Bill by his family and friends, he proudly served his country and was a member of the United States Air Force from October 1962 until his honorable discharge in October 1968. He then enlisted with the Army Reserves for a further six years.

Bill joined the Manhattan Veterans Administration (VA) in April 1967 as a Biomedical Engineering Technician before transferring to the VA Hospital in Gainesville, FL, in 1972. On December 3, 1998, he ended a 31-year career with the VA when he decided to retire and move to St. Augustine, FL, where he joined Flagler Hospital as a Biomedical Engineering Technician - a position he occupied until 2007 when he finally made the decision to enter full-time retirement.

Relatively small in stature but big in heart, Bill lived a life full of compassion for his fellow man. He was eager to help people whenever he could and he was extremely unselfish. He and his beloved wife, Susie, relished socializing and they especially enjoyed meeting people and establishing new friendships.

Bill loved skiing, golf and dancing, and he was something of an expert at the Irish jig and clogging. He also took great pleasure from traveling - whether in the United States or abroad – and he and Susie went on many cruises together over the years.

With his background in solid-state electronics and biomedical engineering, Bill was a natural at DIY, and he would spend hours building, modifying and repairing things around the family home or in the garden. In fact, he was known to his sons as 'Mister Fixit'.

However, that practical side was more than matched by his sensitive nature. He was extremely sentimental and, in Bill, Susie loved the fact that she had a very romantic husband by her side.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susie; his sons, William and Michael; his brother, Charles (Chickie) Baglivio; his two grandchildren, Alexis and Elissa; and his beloved dog, Heidi. He was predeceased by six brothers: Daniel, James, Anthony, Joseph and Thomas; and by one sister, Anne.

Bill's memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home And Crematory in St. Augustine. Private burial will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, any donations in Bill's honor can be made to The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or given online at thefoundationcares.org/give. Alternatively, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
