William Joseph Barba, Sr., of Somerset passed away on Sunday, November 26th at home. He was 81.
Born in Bayonne and raised in Jersey City, he lived in North Arlington before moving to Somerset in 1970.
He served in the US Air Force from 1960 to 1964, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Bill worked as a Mechanic for Foley Caterpillar in Piscataway before his retirement. He was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy RC Church in South Bound Brook where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
He was an active member of the St. Matthias Knights of Columbus, Council # 9925, Somerset where he served as Grand Knight in 1993-94 and again in 2014-2015. Bill was also a member of the Msgr. John A. O'Grady Fourth Degree Assembly #664. He enjoyed western movies and books and above all spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Josphe & Loretta Barba; brother, Joseph Barba; and son-in-law, Mark Badore in 2021.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Helen; sons and daughter-in-law, William J. Barba Jr. and his wife Shirley of Somerset and Kenneth M. Barba of Mechanicsville, Virginia; daughters and son-in-law, Pamela & Raymond Hoffman of Bonaire, Georgia and Patricia Badore of Hillsborough; sisters, Susan Kemprowski of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Lorraine Whitson of Elizabethtown, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, Jessica, Anthony, Elizabeth, Amanda, Kaleigh, Christopher, Justin and Victoria; and 4 great-grandchildren, Damian, Steven, Josiah and Kaysen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1st from 4 to 6 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset. Those wishing to join virtually via Zoom please click HERE and enter passcode 511980. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM Mass at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church, South Bound Brook. Entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
