William "Bill" Fitch Dunn, 100, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at the Hospice Home in Burlington. Born on October 28, 1923, in Jamestown, NY, Bill was the son of Clair Montgomery Dunn and Myrtle Fitch Dunn.
Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then attended Front Street United Methodist Church in Burlington. As a young man, Bill felt a strong sense of duty towards his country and drafted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with distinction, displaying unwavering bravery and dedication to his fellow servicemen.
After the war, Bill channeled his passion for optics into a successful career as an optician. For many years, he owned and operated Bill Dunn Opticians in Burlington, where he built a reputation for his expertise and commitment to providing exceptional eyecare services. Bill's dedication to his craft earned him loyal customers and admiration from colleagues throughout the industry.
Bill is survived by his grandsons; John Ryan Dunn and wife Kim of Savannah, Ga. and David William Dunn of Burlington, NC as well as his great grandchildren; Jenny Dunn, Addison Dunn, Bryson Dunn and Carleigh Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Sharp Dunn, son; David Richard Dunn, parents; Clair and Myrtle Dunn and a half-brother; Dick Dunn.
A funeral service to honor Bill's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
