William Glenn Flesch was born on April 9, 1966, in Muscatine, Iowa. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away on October 12, 2025, at the EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to education and family.
Bill devoted 33 years of his life to teaching, serving as a Middle School Science Teacher at May Goodrell Middle School in Des Moines. With a Bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University and a Master’s degree from Viterbo University, he brought passion into the classroom, inspiring countless students with his knowledge and enthusiasm for science.
Raised in Hackensack, Minnesota, Bill moved to Des Moines to launch his teaching career, later choosing Waukee as the ideal community to raise his family. On August 10, 1991, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Miller, in Des Moines, Iowa. Their union was marked by an unwavering commitment to one another and the family they built together.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy Flesch; children, Mackenzie (Dylan) Nelson, Hunter (Aubree Aanonson) Flesch, and Madison (Zac Dietrich) Flesch; his cherished grandsons, Rhett and Rylan Nelson; mother Arlene Flesch; brother James (Karyn) Flesch and sister Kathy Bencker. Bill took great pride in being a papa to his grandsons and he found joy in every moment spent with them.
Bill lived out his Minnesota roots to the fullest, with his love for the outdoors and Minnesota sports. Whether he was on the lake fishing, chasing deer and turkeys through the woods, or cheering for the Vikings at home, he saw these as opportunities to share experiences with family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Flesch; father-in-law Leon Miller; mother-in-law Jeanne Miller; and brothers-in-law David Kovalsky and Allen Bencker.
A Celebration of Life with memory sharing will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., which all are welcome to attend. The family will then receive guests from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., both at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee. In honor of Bill, all attendees are asked to wear purple (Go Vikes!) or their best hunting/fishing gear.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to all the nurses, staff and volunteers at EveryStep Kavanagh House for their dedicated and compassionate care during Bill's final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to EveryStep Hospice (www.everystep.org).
