William Hale Obituary

On what would have been his 87th birthday we remember William "Bill" Warren Hale. Bill died on January 27, 2025, in Arizona, at age 86. He was born October 4, 1938, in Portland, Ore., to Dr. Warren and Mildred Hale. Bill graduated from Grant High School, Clark College (Vancouver) and Portland State University. He met his first wife Constance "Coni" Wieber at Clark and they had two children, David and Stephanie. They later divorced. In 2007, Bill married Judy Matthies in Kauai, Hawaii, after many years together. Bill and Judy split their time between Washington and Arizona. Their love of travel took them to all seven continents, over 100 countries, as well as across the USA and Alaska on several RV trips. Bill found his niche in commercial real estate after forming Hale Associates and Oregon Equities, Inc. He had a successful career in property sales and leasing, in addition to raising money for large investment properties. Bill was an avid reader and historian, particularly in matters of the Civil War and both World Wars, as well as the American West. Despite losing an eye in 2007 and being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2020, Bill always kept a positive attitude. His mantra, "it's more fun to get better than bitter," served him well. Bill's special place in the world was Cascade Head Ranch where he had a home. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Thomas "Tom." He is survived by his wife, Judy Matthies; son, David Hale; daughter, Stephanie Kullberg and her husband, Jim; and grandchildren, Rebecca and Kevin Kullberg. Remembrances can be made to The Salvation Army or an animal rescue group of your choice.
