William "Bill" Schobey Jr. Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elgin Funeral Home on Apr. 14, 2025.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Wilburn Schobey on April 11, 2025. Bill, as he was affectionately known, dedicated his life to Christ at a young age, and just two days before Palm Sunday, he was welcomed into Heaven, where they would celebrate together in eternal joy.

Bill was born on November 9, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to William and Lillian Schobey. He later moved to Austin, where he met the love of his life, Gail. They cherished their 46 years of marriage, having tied the knot on April 19, 1979. After 16 wonderful years in Austin, they relocated to Blue, where Bill found great joy in simple pleasures like sitting on the swing and listening to the birds sing, or smoking brisket for family gatherings.

In 1977, Bill pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by founding American Copier Supply Company alongside Gail. His passion for the business was palpable, often dressing in black to hide the inevitable toner spills, earning him the playful nickname "The Man in Black," reminiscent of Johnny Cash. He built lasting relationships with his customers, always treating them with kindness and respect.

Bill's vibrant personality shone through in the colorful stories of his past, delighting everyone around him. His family can attest to his gift for storytelling; once he began reminiscing, his tales would envelop the room, enriched by laughter and love.

Above all, Bill instilled in his children the importance of never leaving without a heartfelt “I love you,” along with a hug and kiss. He emphasized this valuable lesson, recognizing the unpredictability of life.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, William and Lillian; his sister, Connie Covington; his daughter, Robin Gail Schobey; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Bill's spirit lives on through his devoted wife, Gail; his sons, Billy, David, and Jason; daughter-in-law, Deanna Schobey; grandchildren, Zachary, Katie, Taylor, Shelby Rose, and Sean Willingham; and his precious great-granddaughter, Tatum Grace Schobey.

In gratitude, Bill would want to thank his family and friends for contributing to the happiness of his life, expressing his love for each and every one of them.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life at Elgin Funeral Home on Saturday, May 3rd, at 2:00 PM, with Jason Rose presiding. Let us come together to honor a remarkable man who touched many lives with his unwavering love and generosity.
