William "Billy" Thomas Russell

William Thomas (Billy) Russell, 90, of Colbert, Georgia passed away on July 10, 2025 in Athens, Georgia. Billy was born February 26, 1935 in Colbert, Georgia to Collier Vines Russell and Jewel Butler Russell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Russell Smith.

Billy is survived by his sister Gail Russell Pratt of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Surviving children include: David (Kim) Russell of Colbert, Georgia and Debra (Donald) Holmes of Eva, Alabama. Grandchildren include Sam Gill of Colorado Springs,Colorado, Sydney(David) Saucier of Starkville, Mississippi, Luke Holmes of Eva, Alabama, Jonathan(Julie) Russell, Ben(Hannah) Russell, Joseph(Mary Grace) Russell, Caroline Russell and Thomas Russell all of Colbert, Georgia. Great-grandchildren include Nathan, Jason and Rhett Russell, Judah and Mae Saucier. His sweet companion of 15 years, Dee Osborne. Billy and Dee packed a lot of love, laughs and living into their time together. Billy said Dee was “his heart.”

Billy retired from the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission and was a lifelong farmer. For the last 15 years he enjoyed working with his son, David and grandson, Ben at Russell and Sons Farm. He taught Sunday School and was a member of Colbert First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16 11:00 a.m. at Colbert First Baptist Church, 65 S. 5th St., Colbert, Georgia 30628. Interment will follow at the Colbert Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 am at Colbert First Baptist Church.
