William Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory - Owensboro on Jan. 28, 2026.
William J. "Bill" Bishop, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was born March 12, 1943, in Daviess County to the late Joseph and Ruby Bishop. As a young man, Bill served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division before joining BellSouth, now AT&T, where he retired after 37 years. Bill's family was important to him and he was always so proud of his four grandsons spending his retirement surrounded by his grandkids. His foundation was in Christ and he found great joy in studying God's Word and sharing Christ with others. Bill was a faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by his siblings, Carolyn Dechman, Bob Bishop, Don Bishop and Jon Dee Bishop.

He is lovingly remembered by those who survive him, his wife of 58 years, Sharon Batman Bishop; daughters, Beth Johnson (Jeff) and Carrie Ling (Joe); grandchildren, Nolan Johnson, Logan Ling, Caleb Ling and Ethan Ling; siblings, Max Bishop, Sandra Ratliff, and Jim Bishop; along with many nieces and nephews who visited with him so often during his final years.

The family expresses deep appreciation for the Wellington Parc Memory Care team, who so wonderfully provided compassion, care, and support to Bill and his family.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
