William Blevins Obituary

William Robert Blevins

Oct 1, 1927 - Dec 19, 2025

Mr. William Robert Blevins, 98, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025. Robert was born on October 1, 1927, in West Virginia to the late Gorman Edgar Blevins and Ada Cleary Blevins. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He had a long career as a machinist, retiring from AMP after decades of service. Robert was a longtime faithful member of Robinhood Road Baptist Church. He loved his church family and didn't hesitate to invite his friends and neighbors to church. Robert never met a stranger, could fix anything, and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. Most importantly, Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ella Sue Blevins; one daughter, Lorna Jean Sprinkle; four brothers and two sisters. Robert is survived by his children, Robin McCune (James), Barry Blevins, and Randy Blevins (Marla); grandchildren, Christopher Sprinkle (Rena), Lee Woodall (Amber), Ryan Sprinkle (Carolyn), Chad Blevins (Melissa), and Cameron Blevins; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Blevins (Vea); one sister, Estelle Treadaway (David); and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Rev. John E. Hackworth, Jr. officiating. A private family visitation will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Robinhood Road Baptist Church, 5422 Robinhood Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.

My mama, Mae Ayers, had worked with Bob for many years at Amp. I had heard mama speak of Bob and Sue often. Things they would get together and do. At one time i was having trouble with a washing machine andcwas telling mama. She said let me call Bob and see if he can come take a look at it as he had done for things like that for her. Bob called, at that time it was on my house phone, and we set up a time for him to come and gave him directions. He fixed it for me with no problems. I never saw or heard anything abiout them after mama passed away. Then about a year ago my home phone rings and when i looked at caller id it said Bob Blevins, so i answered. Hello. Is there a Debby lives there. I laughed and i said yes Bob, this is Debby. He said, well i was going through my old phone book and saw your name and number beside Mae Ayers. I replied yes i am her daughter. You came to my house in Rural Hall to fix my washer years ago. Oh, i remember you live so and so. Yes, and i still do. Since then i have thoroughly enjoyed our long phone talks about once a week. We got together at Ccracker barrel and at Coronet seafood. We talked about everything. He would often say, i dont think i have ever known anyone who has done and knows how to do so many different things. I have always been DIY. I have even fixed my own washing machine since then. I make wreaths and gnomes and have many hobbies and interest. When he saw my wreaths he had to have one and during my last big wreath making times i asked him which one he liked the most and he picked out a red cardinal wreath but he wanted more lights so i put on an extra strand. Then he asked how long do these lights last. They last a long time Bob. Then we got together to eat right at veterans day i think and i carried him one of my red, white and blue holiday gnomes. I came up with my own pattern in which i use a plastic jar for the body and fill with candy before i give or sell. He had only seen a picture of until then andvhe was grinning from ear to earn i raise my own garden and fruits at my house so we talked constantly during summer about that. I would carry him some of the food i would cook or some of my fruits i grow from time to time. He always said i knew since you do so much that you were a good cook. Really made me feel good about myself and the life i have lived. I lost a daughter to covid in 2021 as he had lost a daughter years ago. We talked about God and the signs we see in the world today. I want you to know he only came back in my life about a year ago but we both had very fond memories. He loved my muscadine jelly and memories of muscadines in his younger years. He will be surely missed.
