William Franklin Boots, of Fargo, ND, passed away on January 20, 2026, his 61st birthday. A man of immense strength, humor, and heart, he leaves behind a legacy built on hard work and even harder laughs.
Born in Michigan on January 20, 1965, William eventually brought his talents to North Dakota, where he owned and operated his own framing company. He was a master of his craft, known for his grit and the physical evidence of his labor seen in structures across the region.
To those who didn’t know him, William could be an intimidating figure—a man who commanded respect the moment he stepped into a space. However, that tough exterior was home to a legendary sense of humor. William never met a stranger; he would walk into a crowded room and leave with a dozen new friends, having cracked enough jokes to keep everyone laughing for hours.
Above all, William was a man of radical generosity. He lived by the code of helping anyone in need, truly willing to give the shirt off his back to support those he cared about. His bark was loud, but his heart was bigger.
William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Boots.
He is survived by his four children, Briana Mays, Heather Ornelas, Landon Boots, and Jason Boots; and his cherished grandchildren, England Thomas, Xzavian Ornelas, Louis Thomas, Macklyn Ficklin, and Rae’Lynn Ficklin. The family wishes to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Gina and Dean for always being there and for their unwavering support.
A small celebration of life will be held at a later date to swap stories, share laughs, and say goodbye to a man who was truly one of a kind.
