1924 - 2022

A resident of Santa Maria since 1937, William (Bill) Bracamonte passed away on December 30, 2022.

He was born 1924 in Ventura Calif. and moved to Santa Maria in 1937 where he attended local schools. He Joined the California Conservation Corps (CCC) in Santa Barbara, Calif. After leaving the C.C.C. he went to work at Camp Cook, now Vandenberg Air Force Base. He was drafted and entered the Army in 1943 during WWII and was sent to the South Pacific. He served with the 32nd Red Arrow army division in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. After serving 3 years in the service he was Honorably discharged. He returned to Santa Maria where he went to work at southern Pacific lumber and Kirk lumber. Later he met the love of his life Cleo Greathouse and married in 1948. He went to work for Coast Rock driving a transit mixer for 25 years and then retired. After retirement he enjoyed going to sporting and culture events, along with family bar-b-ques.

He is preceded in death by brother Earl Bracamonte and two sons Steven Bracamonte, and Ronald Bracamonte along with loving wife Cleo Bracamonte. Bill is survived by daughter Sharon Kee and son-in-law Paul Kee, son Edward Bracamonte. Grandchildren Brian Kee, Shawn Bracamonte, Isabella Bracamonte and Wesley Melton, along with great-grandchildren Ace Kee, Monique, Alexandria and Elijah Bracamonte.

A Graveside military service will be held on January 20, at 1:30pm at the Santa Maria Cemetery.
