William Broda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Funeral Home on Dec. 14, 2025.
William Martin Broda (Bill), age 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in Huntersville, North Carolina.

Bill was born on October 13, 1941, in Niagara Falls, New York. He was raised along the Niagara River on Cayuga Island, where he developed a lifelong love of the water. From a very early age, Bill could be found boating and fishing on the river, passions that remained central to his life.

An accomplished athlete, Bill excelled in football, basketball, and baseball throughout his high school and college years. His competitive spirit, discipline, and teamwork shaped the man he became and stayed with him long after his playing days.

Bill proudly served his country during the Vietnam era as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was an infantry unit commander with the 6th U.S. Army at Fort Ord, California, and in recognition of his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. His military service reflected strong leadership, discipline, and a deep sense of duty-qualities that remained central to his life long after his time in uniform.

While living in Florida, Bill continued his love of boating and sailing. He took great pride in sailing his 35-foot sailboat out of Port Everglades, finding peace and joy on the open water.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Patricia Talbot Broda; his daughter, Michelle West, and her husband, Dan; his grandson, Michael Broda West; his sister, Carrie Broda Weber; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James Broda.

Bill will be remembered for his strength, adventurous spirit, and deep connection to the water. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, 10:30am, at St. Mark Catholic Church. The Mass will be livestreamed and may be viewed by clicking View Livestream. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army. Flowers may be delivered to James Funeral Home.

Memorial donations, in William's honor, may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation by clicking Donate Here.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Buffalo, New York in the upcoming future.
