William "Buddy" Nathan Adel, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Overland Park, Kansas, on September 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 9, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, Buddy lived a life filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

Buddy's passion as a small business owner took his life in the direction of graphic design and printing supplies. His dedication to his work was evident, but it was his heart that truly defined him. Beyond the professional realm, Buddy was a man of the community. He took great pride in coaching basketball, sharing not only his expertise but also instilling a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. He was instrumental in developing youth soccer in Kansas City. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many days at the Lake of the Ozarks, where the beauty of nature matched the warmth in his heart.

Buddy graduated from Pem-Day in 1956. He was a standout athlete and a 3-sport letterman. He was the quarterback of the Pem-Day football team, star guard on the undefeated 1956 State Champion basketball team and played on the tennis team. Buddy went to Dartmouth on a basketball scholarship and finished his bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas. His love for sports never waned, and he continued to find joy in playing basketball, tennis, and spending countless hours outdoors. He was known for his great sense of humor and an ability to connect with everyone he met, never considering anyone a stranger. With a giving spirit and a welcoming demeanor, Buddy always placed others before himself, living as an example of kindness and generosity.

His service in the Army added another chapter to his noble character, embodying the values of honor and duty. Yet, his proudest accomplishment was being a devoted father. Buddy leaves behind his beloved spouse of 61 years, Judy Adel, who was his partner in every sense of the word, and their children: Edward Adel (Barbara), David Adel (Cassie), and Melissa Adel (Mike). His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Lucas, Daniel, Jackson, Megan, and Hunter—each of whom carry a piece of his spirit within them. He will be fondly remembered by many other extended family and friends.

Buddy was predeceased by his parents, Dutch and Eunice Adel, and his brother, Robert "Bob" Adel. Their memories remain close to the hearts of all who knew him, serving as a reminder of the enduring love and strength that defined his journey.

While his physical presence may be gone, the light that Buddy brought into the lives of so many will forever shine brightly in their hearts. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire those left behind, reminding all to embrace life and cherish family, friends, and the beautiful moments in between. Rest in peace, Buddy; you will be profoundly missed but always remembered with love.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, September 20th, at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, with a reception to follow.
