William C. Newton, a cherished family man, respected businessman, and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on September 5, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida, William's life was marked by his unwavering kindness, deep faith, and selfless spirit.
William's journey began in Jacksonville, FL, where his early years were filled with the warmth of the Florida sun and the foundation of what would become a life full of love and service. After serving his country with honor as a Navy veteran, William met and married the love of his life, Ann, with whom he shared over six decades of devoted marriage until her passing in 2011. Together, they raised two daughters, Karen Sumners and Melinda (Duane) McKee, who were the light of their lives.
A true family man, William's legacy continued to grow with the joyous addition of his grandchildren, David (Apryl) Sumners, Holly (Clint) Park, and Marcus (Lauren) Sumners. He was a doting grandfather who cherished every moment with them. The family circle expanded with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Dylann Park and Lincoln Sumners, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
Professionally, William was the esteemed owner of Cumberland Die Supply, where he exemplified the values of hard work and integrity. His professional achievements were matched by his commitment to community service, as evidenced by his active involvement in the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, Tennessee. His melodious voice was a staple in the church choir, and his devotion to faith was further expressed through the mission trips he embarked on, touching the lives of many around the world.
William's zest for life was evident in his many interests. An avid golfer, he spent countless hours on the green, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. His love for travel took him and his beloved Ann on adventures far and wide, including a memorable Alaskan cruise and a family cruise to the Bahamas, creating lasting memories for all who accompanied them.
At home, William's generosity and friendly nature made him a pillar of the community. Living on a lake, he taught not only his own children but also many children in the area how to water ski, sharing his skills and love for the water. His passion for card games brought friends and family together for evenings filled with laughter and joy.
William will be remembered as a man of great character, whose faith-filled life was a testament to his belief in kindness and giving. His selfless nature touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
