William Carrig Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mathis Funeral Home - Medford on Jul. 7, 2025.
William "Bill" Carrig, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 74 on July 3, 2025, in Shamong, NJ, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 5, 1951, in Jersey City, NJ, Bill's life was a testament to his strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones and community.

Bill's journey began in the heart of Hoboken, where his robust and infectious spirit were cultivated. His professional pursuits led him to Mount Holly, NJ in 1975 where he joined the Police Department as a Patrolman before being promoted through the ranks from Detective, to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and finally retiring as Director of Public Safety after nearly 30 years. His commitment to service and excellence left an incredible mark on the community and his colleagues.

At home, Bill's heart belonged to his family. His beloved wife, Kris Carrig, was his partner in all of life's adventures. Together, they raised two sons, Billy and Kacey, who, along with their wives Adriana and Laura, brought joy to Bill's life. His role as "Grandpa" to his grandchildren, Ford, Crew, Jett, and Navy, was one he cherished deeply, and his legacy of love, laughter, and storytelling will continue to flourish in their lives.

Bill loved riding motorcycles – from Nortons and Triumphs, to dirt bikes with his boys – and his love for riding was only matched by his passion for the small things like morning coffee and margaritas on the deck, where he would recount tales of 'Bang Boy Billy'. A talented cook, Bill's home was a place of gathering, where his dishes brought together family and friends in celebration of life's simple pleasures.

Bill's life was one of engagement, not only with his family and passions but also with his furry companion, his cat, Kali, who was a constant source of comfort and joy. His interests were diverse, yet they all shared a common theme: the love of sharing good times with those he held dear.

Bill Carrig was a ferociously loyal man of honor and a beacon of joy in the lives of those who knew him. While his physical presence will be dearly missed, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the love he shared will continue to resonate for generations to come.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 10-12PM, at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his treatment on this journey and/or the NICU Fund at the Morristown Medical Center where his third grandson, Jett, spent the first 9 weeks of his life.

My condolences to the entire family. I have such fond memories of the kids growing up together and us coaching and watching countless baseball, basketball and tennis matches. He was a kind and supportive father and husband from what. I can see. I was lucky to know him and he will always be remembered.
