86, left his earthly life to enter the presence of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Tom was born in Sylva, North Carolina to the late William Thomas Cloer, Sr and Olyve Willis Cloer on September 15, 1939. He grew up in Welch, West Virginia, where he mastered the McDowell County ingenuity that was a blessing to anyone who ever needed an extra pair of hands, a creative fix or simply a role of duct tape.
With a heart that was surpassed only by his smile, Tom lived a life of abundant service and dedication to those he loved, and especially to First Baptist Church of St. Albans, where as a Trustee, he gave countless hours to its care, maintenance and safekeeping. He will be profoundly missed by his treasured Wednesday Work Crew.
Tom married the love of his life, Caroline Sue Stanley, on December 21, 1968, and they began a life of cherished companionship. Tom and Caroline loved cheering on the Marshall Thundering Herd, traveling, celebrating friends and most of all, their family.
As a graduate of Marshall University, Tom's career in personnel and human resources included time with Charleston Newspapers, Carbon Fuel Company, Cedar Coal Company and John E. Amos Power Plant. He retired from Acordia Employer Services in 2003.
After the loss of his sweet Carol, Tom's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, as napping buddy, chauffeur, tutor, coach, sport spectator and co-conspirator.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, John Willis Cloer. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Thomas "Tommy" Cloer, III and Sara Megan Cloer, granddaughter Mia Elizabeth Cloer, grandson Graham Elliot Cloer, sisters Elizabeth "Libby" Adkins and her husband Roger, Olivia Helms and her husband Tom, Joyce Adams and her husband Gary, brother-in-law William "Bill" Stanley and his husband Bob Gatarz. He is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews.
