Graveside Services for William Algene "Billy" Davis, 89, of Butler will be held Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Butler City Cemetery with family bringing special remarks and Bro. Jimmy Thompson officiating.
William Algene Davis transitioned from this life to his heavenly home on Friday, February 9, 2024, at his residence. Known affectionately as "Billy," he spent his entire life in Choctaw County. Billy was a sports enthusiast and excelled in football, basketball, and baseball at CCHS. He was a champion golfer and the last surviving founding member of the Choctaw Country Club. Committed to his community, he served on the Butler City Council. Beginning as one of the original employees at the American Can Company, he dedicated forty years to the company before retiring at 62. Subsequently, he established Naheola Warehouse and Storage, later forming Pennco Warehouse. Mr. Billy took great pride in his work, fostering strong bonds with his dedicated team, who became like family to him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Ann Moody Davis; daughter, Rhonda Davis Woodson; son, Richard Alan Davis and wife Terry; grandchildren, Charles Jackson Woodson, Jr. (Allison); William Wayland Woodson (Lauren); Mary Katherine Davis Marshallsea (Jack); Anna Margaret Davis; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Davis Stache and Linda Davis Roberts; brothers-in-laws, Augie Stache and Tommy Gibbs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Leland Davis and Edith Burns Davis; brother, Oscar "Sonny Boy" Davis (Jean); sisters, Ruth Davis Stache and Donna Davis Gibbs; and brother-in-law, Joey Stache.
He is also survived by sisters, Swan Poole and Sue Jenkins (Melvin); brothers, Leland Davis (Linda) and Thomas Davis (Ramona).
He is also preceded by his sister Lea Sims.
Pallbearers include Richard Chess, Willie Chess, Jack Dunn, Warren Alston, Peter and Vera Smith, Jackson Woodson, and Will Woodson.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Butler Memorial Fund at P.O. 538, Butler, AL 36904.
