W. Richard “Dick” Dottermusch, 98, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Pruitt Health Crystal Coast.
Dick was born at home on November 30, 1926, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to the late Albert and Louise Dottermusch. He attended Lansdale High School, graduating with the Class of 1944. Shortly after, he enrolled at Penn State University. He took a break from education to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1949.
Dick went on to enjoy a distinguished 38-year career with General Electric’s Lamp Division, working in sales and marketing. He was admired for his professionalism, character, and kindness. He was an avid private pilot, always enjoying the adventures of his many flights. Upon retiring to Morehead City in 1988, he volunteered for many years with the Carteret Literacy Council, helping adults learn to read and mentoring them.
Dick is survived by his sister, Grace Madden of Morehead City, NC; wife, Nancy Dottermusch of Durham, NC; sons, Richard J. Dottermusch (Cheryl) of North Potomac, MD and Andrew Dottermusch of Rehoboth Beach, DE; grandchildren, Megan Leigh Susskind (Jeffrey) of Chevy Chase, MD, and Kaitlyn E. Fordyce (Cyrus) of Gaithersburg, MD; great grandchildren, Spencer Rose Susskind and Sloane Avery Susskind of Chevy Chase, MD; and step daughters, Brittany White (Chuck) of Durham, NC, and Charleigh Barnes (Evan) of Pittsburgh, PA.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Louise Gerding; and brothers-in-law, Walter Madden and Ervin Gerding.
