William Driscoll Obituary
73, of Tampa, FL, passed away from complications of heart failure in Jacksonville, FL on October 15, 2025. He was born February 5, 1952, in Norfolk VA, to William T. Driscoll, Jr. and Joan Vivian Coley Driscoll. The family moved to Tampa, FL, soon thereafter.
He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, in the 1970s, lettering for three years in Division 1 football. Upon graduation, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA, including two Mediterranean tours on a Landing Ship Tank (LST) and as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Retiring from active duty in 1982, he joined the Naval Reserve and attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, graduating in 1985.
Returning to Tampa in 1986, he continued his service in the Naval Reserve and served in the Middle East following Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Bill worked for the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office, subsequently establishing his own law practice, which he ran with dedication and integrity until his passing.
Bill was known for his larger-than-life personality and strong South Tampa ties. He was an avid football fan, cheering for Georgia Tech (where his daughters attended college), Florida State University and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Scott (Trey), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Diana Benton (Tom), Atlanta, GA; his six grandchildren, Cade, Mary and Lilly Scott and Alexandra, Katherine and Luke Benton; his sister, Lisa Driscoll, Bradenton FL; many nieces and nephews and his former wife, Virginia "Ginger" Lane of Jacksonville Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Diane Driscoll Buell and Deborah Driscoll Smith.

Bill and I went to the Ronald Reagan inauguration in 1980 - Bill was in his NAVY outfit and together we pushed forward toward the front. Bill has been a life long friend and we are heartbroken about his passing.....Bobby & Merideth Newman

Bill has been in and out of our lives ever since I was a little girl. He was a larger than life friend of our family. When Bill was in high school and college he often came for dinner. When my Mom stepped away, we had eating contests-Bill and my brother with serving bowls and spoons and me with regular sized eating utensils. I never won!
When Bill and Ginger got married, I somehow ended up in the limousine to the Yacht Club-it was my first time in a limo and sooo exciting! Then as I finally grew up and had a family, I would run into Bill at some of his favorite places, Timpano, On Swann, Cafe Paradisio etc. We always stopped to talk with him or invite him to our table. Conversations with Bill always included shared stories and a lot of laughter. God Bless you Bill. Victoria and Charles Klug
