Obituary for William Edge Sr.
William Edge Sr. was born on April 30, 1942, in
Kenly, North Carolina, to the late Lena and Benny Edge Sr. His family later migrated to the Boston, Massachusetts area, where he was raised alongside his five sisters and brother. He was educated in the public school system and graduated from Boston Trade High School for Boys.
On February 24, 1962, in Boston, Massachusetts, Helen united in holy matrimony with William Edge Sr. Their union was blessed with four sons-Christopher, Nathaniel, Jonathan, and William Jr.-before they later parted ways.
In William's early life, he worked as a woodworker, making cabinets through his learned trade. After the company he worked for relocated south, he continued working as a cleaner for facilities such as Charles Bank Trust and Brigham's Ice Cream, where he met his current wife, MiJa. The two married on June 26, 1981 and were then blessed with two more sons, Shawn and Christian.
After many years in the cleaning industry, William followed his passion for automobile care and spent many years in auto reconditioning at The Concord Auto Auction and ADESA. This eventually led to him founding his own professional auto detailing company, Edgewise Auto Detail, in
Stow, Massachusetts, under which he later retired. He was known for providing high-quality service throughout the central mass area and was featured by London Taxi Cab in Neiman Marcus's Christmas edition for their Burberry special edition taxi cab.
William enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted fan of Boston sports. He especially enjoyed women's and men's basketball, as well as football. Sundays were often spent yelling at the television and laughing at players who couldn't run the ball "north and south." In his youth, he enjoyed playing football and a guitar player in the band, The G-Clefs, a skill he passed down to some of his sons. William was a fun-loving husband, father, and "Poppy," known for his humor and playful spirit up until his final days. He was deeply loved and never shy about expressing how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Benny Edge Sr. and Lena Edge; his sister, Tina Edge; and his former wife, Helen, who passed one day prior. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, MiJa Edge; sons Christopher, Nathaniel, Jonathan, William Jr., Shawn, and Christian Edge; his four sisters-Ann Edge French (Karl), Thelma Singleton (Melvin), Dolores Dibbles, and Lena Stevenson (Tyrone); his brother, Benny Edge Jr.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
