William Ellis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thurman Funeral Home - Richmond on Mar. 18, 2026.
William "Bill" George Ellis, 82, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Bill was born on May 7, 1943, in St. Joseph, the son of Charles Raymond and Alice Lee (Brazzell) Ellis. He was united in marriage to Edna Jane Long of St. Joseph on August 24, 1974; they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1978.

Survivors include: wife, Edna Jane Ellis of Richmond; son, William James "B.J." (Lesley) Ellis of Holly Springs, NC; three daughters: Rosita Jayne (Adam) Dial of Richmond, LeeAnn Rae Ellis of Marshalltown, and April Dawn Buasri of Kansas City; 11 grandchildren: Ashley Rachelle Dial (Erik Goodman), Zachary Craig Dial (Chelsea), Christy Nicole Dial, Trent Adam Dial (Trysten), Rebecca Susanne Malone, Molly Mariah Buasri, Alexandrew Song Buasri, Justin James Ellis, Garrett William Ellis, Robert Matthew "Matt" Ellis, and Cole Michael Ellis; 13 great-grandchildren: Camille Grace, Tenley Jayne, and Riley Nicole Goodman, Kopelynn Claire and Kaelum Dalton Dial, Michael Malekai Malone, Ellezibeth Madigan Murray, Sophia Pearl Kathleen Murray, Harper Ann Murray, Hunter James Ellis, Elianna Isabelle Ellis, Brantley William Ellis, and Greyson Matthew Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Judith Lee Wilson, and granddaughter, Nia Murray.

Bill was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Benton High School. He was a devoted and hardworking provider, spending 25 years in the grocery business, followed by another 30 years with Gasket Engineering in Kansas City before retiring.

Bill was a man of faith who found joy in the blessings of the gospel and the importance of family. He especially cherished time spent with his wife as they traveled together, visiting both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. A lifelong Elvis fan, Bill delighted in performing Elvis impersonations at various venues-and even professionally for a time. He also fulfilled a personal dream by visiting Graceland and Elvis's birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi.

He found satisfaction in caring for his home, spending time doing yardwork and quietly tinkering outdoors. More than anything, Bill treasured his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his grandchildren deeply, and some of his most meaningful moments were spent with them-especially the joyful times shared at the pool.

Bill's life was a reflection of his love for the Lord, his dedication to his family, and his appreciation for the simple, meaningful moments that bring lasting happiness.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or the Parkinson's Foundation. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wood Heights, with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M., with services to follow at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Richmond. Please remember to share your memories of Bill with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
