William Evans Obituary

EVANS, William Irving, age 73, of Carlisle, Penn., died Friday, September 26, 2008. He was a former resident of Mecklenburg County, a member of the Teamsters Union in Richmond, and was an employee of the Teamsters Union in Pennsylvania as a commercial truck driver. Mr. Evans is survived by a son, Danny Evans and his wife, Denise, of Brodnax; three sisters, Connie Houston and Marie Johnstin, both of South Hill, and Irma Davenport (Bernard) of Dinwiddie; two brothers, Thomas C. Evans of Kenbridge and William "Billy" Evans of South Hill; two granddaughters; and close friends, Ronnie Basih and John and Kathy Casey. Mr. Evans was predeceased by his mother, Lillie B. Evans; a son, Dennis Irving Evans, USN; and a sister, Elizabeth Turner. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 in Crestview Memorial Park, with Rev. Karen Workman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the Herbert L. Farrar Funeral Home, South Hill Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Brodnax Volunteer Fire Department, 724 Piney Pond Rd., Brodnax, Va. 23920. Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected].

Our deepest condolences to family of Bill Evans. He was such a sweet man to all the children in the neighborhood. I can't remember a time when the kids were selling some sort of fundraiser for sports or school that he didn't invite them in and give them candy and bought something little from them. He will be greatly missed.
