William Farrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Soxman Funeral Homes. Ltd. /Roth Chapel on Jan. 8, 2026.
William "Bill" Theodore Farrell was born on April 18, 1935, in Patton, Pennsylvania, the middle of three boys. From an early age, Bill showed curiosity, independence, and a natural ease with people. He played trumpet in the school band, worked various odd jobs, and after graduating high school made the decision to join the United States Air Force to serve during the Korean War. He worked most of his life with Bailey Controls as a regional sales manager.
During his military service, Bill developed a deep knowledge of aircraft and worked as an engineer supporting U.S. operations in Saudi Arabia. While home on leave, fate intervened when he met the love of his life, Ethel, who happened to be the sister of his best friend's girlfriend. Their connection was immediate and enduring.
After completing his military service, Bill returned to Pennsylvania and finished his engineering degree at Penn State, beginning a long and successful career. Bill and Ethel married in the summer of 1958 and devoted themselves to raising their three children-Scott, Ron, and Sandy. They created a home that was always loving, fun, and full of warmth.
Bill never met a stranger he didn't like. Later in life, he was active in the community through the Masons of Plum Borough, enjoyed riding his bike along the Pittsburgh trails, and was a loyal Steelers fan. He loved the game of golf and played with his wife family and friends. Known for the mischief in his eyes, Bill loved to tease friends and family, always with good humor and affection.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel Farrell, in 2013.
He is survived by his children Scott Farrell and Linda Algar, Ron Farrell and Kristen Farrell, and Sandy Farrell Shein and Oded Shein; and his cherished grandchildren Ryan Farrell, Rachel (Boaz) Moser, and Alexander and William Shein.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a man who left people smiling after every encounter. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Friends and family are welcome Saturday, 2pm-6pm at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd., 7450 Saltsburg Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Services will be Sunday, 1:00pm, at Plum Creek Cemetery. Please meet at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd. at 12:00pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lofty Oaks Association, so a tree may be planted in Bill's memory.
