I recently ran a 5k + in Ocala, FL in the Hero Rush, which honors the Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and it was my honor to wear William M. Feehan during my race. I never had the pleasure to meet William, though I have prayed for him and the others who parished on September 11. God Bless. Best regards, Gayle

On this Sept 11, 2008, I just listened to a very moving tribute to the brave firemen of the New York City Fire Department. It was from an interview that First Deputy Fire Commissioner William Feehan gave in 1992. My son, who works with a private security company in Kosovo, sent this to me. He also sent it to 3 of my brothers, one a retired Columbus, Ohio Fireman. I can't tell you how much it meant to hear this tribute coming from one of the bravest Firemen who made the ultimate sacrifice.
My brothers and I knew William Feehan as "Uncle Bill". I am the youngest of the Murphy boys, born in 1953, but I still remember the visits with "Uncle Bill and "Aunt Betty". They were actually our cousins but to us they were more like a very fond Aunt and Uncle. God Bless you all. Uncle Bill will never be forgotten by me, my son Patrick, my daughter Kristine or my brothers, Larry, Bill, Rich, Ron, and their families.

My deepest sympathy to all of this fine man's family and friends. As I was trawling the sites which are now dedicated to the tradgedy, it just seemed appropriate, to choose an individuals memorial, to mark my respects, to ALL who lost their lives on that terrible day. What a better choice, than an FDNY senior officer. May your gods go with you

Ron and I will be thinking of all of the Feehan Family and remembering all of the wonderful times we had with Ron's New York Family. Your father treated Ron and his brothers Bill, Richard and Tom with loving respect that families do. Even distant ones....I am sure that the memories of your mom and dad will be with you and comfort you the rest of your days. We have wonderful memories of your dad and when we think of him we have to smile and wonder who he is taking care of now or what kind of stories is he telling....loved the stories that he told us of his security days....what a story teller....Well again, please know that Ron and I think you often....Ron and Chris Murphy

Your Father has been in my prayers since 9/ll and on this aniversary I said an extra special one. The stories about William Feehan in the New York Times, magazines and our local papers portrayed a very brave and dedicated firefigher and a brave american. The day President Kennedy was shot and 9/11 are two dates that I remeber daily and my prayers and throught are with you during your many days of tears and joyous remembering of the happy days you spent together.

Commissioner Feehan's cousin's son, Joe, is our good friend. We saw Joe when we travelled to NY shortly after Sept. 11. Commissioner Feehan's life should inspire us all. He died doing a job that he loved--helping and saving others. New York's bravest lost their finest. God bless all of the firefighters and police of NYC. We must never foget them.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of William. May his courage, his life and love continue living in those who love him and in those who he has helped through the years. We thank William for dedicating his life to help save, protect and care for others as a firefighter. Such a dedication comes with a brave, warm and caring heart filled with love for his fellow man. May the sorrow in your hearts be lightened by the golden memories of the warm moments shared with William. May you feel the warmth of his love surround you and radiate into your hearts. Our hearts cry deeply with you in America's loss of a hero.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Just as he did after the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center Bill Feehan was there on 9/11 helping those that needed help. Bill's exemplary service to citizens of New York City made him a real life hero, an icon of public service. He will always be remembered by his friends at The Port Authority of NY & NJ for his kindness, wisdom and professionalism. Our thoughts, prayers and eternal gratitude are with the Feehan family.

Bill and Beth Feehan

Bill, it is with great sadness I learned of your father’s death at the World Trade Center. Like so many others following the news, I have been trying to make sense of the tragedy in many ways. Hearing and reading about your father I learned a little of what formed your leadership style. If the proof of a great leader is not only in what he does, but in what he leaves behind, your father was a great leader.

Clearly he was a leader who:

- Understood his job, displaying knowledge respected by everyone

- Led by example, displaying a passion for the people and city he served

- Understood the importance of building a team that did work others would consider impossible.

You and your family are in my prayers, and in your father’s memory, I am honored to send a donation to the New York Firefighters Burn Center.
