Obituary published on Legacy.com by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd. - Dixon on Jul. 6, 2024.
William "Bill" F. Ferger, Jr., 87, of Belvidere, formerly of Dixon, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at Maple Crest Care Centre, Belvidere. He worked for Raynor Garage Doors in the trucking department and then as a maintenance supervisor for a total of 38 years, prior to his retirement in 1999.
Bill was born, on April 3, 1937, in Dixon, the son of William and Deloris (Long) Ferger. He married Janet Ferger on June 15, 1963, at First Presbyterian Church in Dixon. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2021. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 - 1960. Bill was an avid bowler for many years, and even found himself managing a bowling alley while in the service. One of his proud moments as a bowler, was when he bowled his highest score of 287. He was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Dixon. He attended church there from birth and was active in the children's choir as a child, and as an adult, he was an elder and was active in the Mariners. Bill was a self-taught woodworker and an all-around handyman. If it could be fixed, he would find a way. Bill was a caring, friendly, and helpful person, a wonderful husband, a loving father, and a fun grandpa, who will be dearly missed.
Bill is survived by two daughters, Debra (Jim) Fiegle of Palm Harbor, FL, Vicki (Derek) Sherman of Belvidere; four grandchildren, Alyson Fiegle, Jason Fiegle, Connor Sherman, and Erica Fiegle.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Chuck Ferger; one sister, Dorothy Schumacher; and two grandsons, Ryan Sherman, and Andrew Fiegle.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, with the Rev. David Spaulding, retired minister from First Presbyterian Church, Dixon, officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
