Mr. William D. Foiles

COLUMBIA - Mass of Christian Burial for William D. Foiles, 86, will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Committal will be in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 6 p.m. with visitation until 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Foiles died Saturday, March 28, 2009. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late William Rickert Foiles and Jacobean Katherine Zenz Foiles. He received a BA degree from Seton Hall University, JD degree from Fordham University and MBA from New York University. He was an attorney and former executive and Certified Life Underwriter with Pennsylvania Life Insurance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 38th Signal Battalion. Mr. Foiles served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Providence Hospital and a board member of the Providence Hospital Foundation. He was an avid golfer, member of the S.C. Golf Association, member of Knights of Columbus and longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine and a half years, Eleanor Foiles; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and George Matthews of Mt. Pleasant and Eileen and Gregory Spires of Dorchester; son and daughter-in-law, William and Lisa Foiles of Hilton Head Island; grandchildren, Patrick Matthews and his wife, Jennie, Jeffrey Matthews, Jennifer Foiles, Justin Foiles and Lauren Foiles; and great-grandchildren, Grace and Claire Matthews. He was predeceased by brother, George L. Foiles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Providence Hospital Fund Development, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 204, Columbia, SC 29204.
