William Charles Fritter, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2025, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville with burial to follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Bill, as many knew him, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 7, 1940, to Nelson and Regina Fritter and was their only child. His parents and his son, Richard Allen Fritter, preceded him death.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Harriet Vernell Fritter and his remaining children, William Charles Fritter, Jr. (Sherry), Steven Michael Fritter (Eyvonne), Christine Fritter Williams (Donald), Debra Fritter Flohr, Ronald Scott Fritter, Theresa Fritter Zimmerman (Scott) and Richard's wife, Lorraine Blake Fritter, all of Jacksonville, NC, 20 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
Bill joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served two tours in Vietnam, and several tours at Camp Lejeune, NC, Hawaii and Okinawa as an artillery forward observer. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1976 after faithfully serving his country for twenty years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, pool player and coin collector. He and Harriet enjoyed cruising the Caribbean and traveling the world in their retirement years.
The family would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM
