William F. "Bill" Gerkins, age 89, of Ekron, KY, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Tender Touch Heart & Home in Elizabethtown, KY.
Bill was born April 17, 1932 in Bartles, KY to the late Walter Thomas and Jessie Mildred McCoy Gerkins. His three brothers: Howard, Edward, and Norman Gerkins; four sisters: Wanda Halsey, Thelma Henry, Ruth Thacker, and Barbara Medley; and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Gerkins also preceded him in death.
Bill was proud veteran of the US Air Force. He was a member of Hill Grove Baptist Church since 1943 and served as a deacon since 1965. Bill retired from Olin Chemical Plant in Brandenburg where he worked as an instrument tech for 38 years and 4 months. He was also recognized by the American Red Cross for his many blood donations over the years. Bill was known as a true gentleman and a humble servant who was dedicated to Jesus, his church, wife, and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patsy A. Gerkins of Ekron; three sons: William Douglas Gerkins of Ekron, Jeffrey Scott (Trish) Gerkins of Knoxville, TN, Kyle Gene (Sheila) Gerkins of Bowling Green, KY; and eight grandchildren: Lauren, Jenny, Sarah, Grace, Claire, Ben, Haley, and Nick.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM EDT at Hill Grove Baptist Church in Guston, KY with burial to follow in the Hill Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg and after 9:00 AM Monday at the church.
