William “Glide” Douglas Raper, 71 of Wilson passed away Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Rev. Carl Bradshaw will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
Doug was a member of Peace Church where he enjoyed serving in the Helping Hands Ministry and he loved golf. He participated in the Willow Springs Interclub Golf matches and Southeast Seniors Association golf tournaments. Doug was a member of Mount Lebanon Lodge #117 and the Wilson County Shriners Hospital, where he was the Commander of the Monster Truck Unit. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all he met. He will be dearly missed and thought of often.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Bobbi Ann Taylor Raper of the home; daughter, Nickie Warrick and husband, Jay of Goldsboro; sons, Spence Manning and wife, Amanda of Four Oaks, and Bobby Manning and wife, Lori of Bailey; grandchildren, J Manning and wife, Cassidy, Landon Warrick, Reed Nichols, Kylie Warrick, Douglas Chase Warrick, Taylor Manning, Allie Warrick, and J. C. Manning; great-grandson, Cameron Harrison; his mother, Shirley Lamm Raper of Lucama; sister, Gloria Lucas and husband, Jeff of Kenly; his sister-in-law, Vickie Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Carlton Raper; granddaughter, Jasmine Pate, and his in-laws, Tommy and Edna Taylor.
