Obituary
William Gombash Jr died peacefully at his home in Newfield on July 29, 2023. He was 95. William's beloved wife, Patricia Jean, died 5 years earlier.
"Bill" was born and raised in Ithaca. He attended Cornell University where he earned his master's degree in electrical engineering. Bill joined the Navy and saw action in Korea. After his honorable service, Bill entered private industry where he designed electro-optical systems for the military. He advanced to program director and was recognized for his exemplary performance. Ultimately Bill retired to return to his hometown of Ithaca.
Bill joined the Ithaca Yacht Club where he and Pat were a delight with their bright and sociable personalities. Bill also served the club as Commodore.
Bill was always effusive when speaking of his "two fine sons" and his loving extended family. He will be missed by many.
William is survived by his sons James and William III and his stepdaughters Raine and Stephanie.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8th at 2:00pm at the New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes, 6632 State Route 96A, Romulus, NY.
