I was just thinking about the time period in my life when I learned to fly (RAM Aviation, Hanover County Airport), back in the days when I lived in Richmond, VA. Seems like so long ago and I guess it was, but I remember I had some wonderful learning experiences on how to fly before I graduated from high school. My primary flight instructor was Dave Hutchinson, but the senior instructor was "Billy" Gravatt. While I spent most of my time with Dave, I spent some quality time learning instrument flying in real conditions, and in the Piper Navajo that Billy flew for a local company (as their corporate pilot). He and I would shoot "touch and goes" at Byrd Airport (Richmond). I would fly right-seat (Co-Pilot), and Billy was the Pilot In Command. I never realized it at the time, but Billy thought high enough of me and my skills (at 17), that he invited me into a very high powered airplane like the Navajo. It was a privilege and something I have always remembered - even now when I am 63 years old and retired. I was saddened to see that Billy and Dave had passed away. They both gave me some of the most enjoyable times of my life! Billy, Rest in Peace. I considered you a friend and Mentor, and I will never forget your kindnesses.

To the Gravatt family:
Billy was a dear friend and neighbor of ours. He always had a warm smile and great conversation. We will miss him. I'm glad we got the chance to visit with him briefly on Saturday, the day he made his transition. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you for your loss. He is home now, and free of suffering. Let us all take solace in that.
