William James "Jimmy" Griffin Jr., PhD

William James Griffin Jr., PhD, age 70, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on January 22, 2026, in Savannah. He was born on October 3, 1955, in Lake City, South Carolina.

Dr. Griffin was the son of Mildred Tessa Flowers Griffin and William James "Buddy" Griffin Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard "Speedy" Flowers Griffin.

A devoted husband, retired professor, and man of deep faith, Dr. Griffin lived a life grounded in learning, service, and spiritual commitment. He earned his PhD and spent his professional career in higher education, where he was respected for his intellect, mentorship, and dedication to students.

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Griffin served as the transitional pastor at St. Mary's Presbyterian Church, offering steady leadership, compassion, and wisdom during a time of transition. His faith was not only something he taught or preached, but something he lived fully.

Throughout his life, Dr. Griffin maintained a long and meaningful commitment to faith-based adventure and experiential learning, particularly with youth and college students. Through outdoor experiences, reflection, and shared challenge, he helped young people deepen their faith, build confidence, and discover purpose.

Dr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Kymberly; his children, Desiree Riley (Allen) and Travis Bailey; his grandchildren; and his niece, Carmelita O'Britis, and her family, and extended family members and friends who will miss him.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Griffin's memory to Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church, St. Mary's Presbyterian Church or the College of Education at the University of Alabama.
