William Gunther Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Butler-Hughes Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
William J. Gunther, 64, of Kings Park, NY on March 30, 2026 after a brief illness. Bill was born on April 18, 1961 to his loving parents William and Constance Gunther. Beloved father of William (Margaret), Stephen (Laura), Daniel and Brian. Dear brother of Karen Gunther. Cherished grandfather to William V. and Chloe. He will also be missed by his countless friends and neighbors.

Raised in Stewart Manor, Bill graduated from Sewanhaka High School and later SUNY Cortland. Bill was appointed a police officer of the Nassau County Police Department in 1986 and achieved the rank of Sergeant before retiring in 2019 after 33 years of proud service to his community. Bill was a talented home cook and found joy in the kitchen. Bill trusted his instinct, taste, and a willingness to experiment to cook savory and hearty meals for family and friends. It was through cooking that he expressed love most clearly.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 4:30-7:30pm at the Butler-Hughes Funeral Home Inc. 69 Indian Head Rd., Kings Park. A private cremation and interment will be held privately.

The family requests that donations be made in Bill's memory to the Cancer Research Institute at www.cancerresearch.org.
