William Lee Hart

William "Bill" Lee Hart, 90, of Winfield, West Virginia, died peacefully at the Hubbard Hospice House on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026.

He was born at his parent's house near Harrisville, West Virginia on June 13, 1935 to the late Jacob Randolph Hart and Zulu Beatrice (Moore) Hart Stephens. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Alcie; daughter, Barbara; and siblings: Wilma Jean, Virginia, Robert, Grover and Harry.

Bill was a 1953 graduate of Pennsboro High School in West Virginia, where he met the love of his life, Alcie Ingram, at the movie theater. After High School Bill worked cutting timber, driving truck in Ritchie County, then picking apples in Winchester, Virginia. Finding no long term job opportunities, Bill moved to Ohio where he and Alcie were married. Bill found his career with Cross Truck Equipment in Canton, Ohio where he started sweeping floors and worked his way to master installer of equipment on heavy trucks.

He was an accomplished self-taught DIY'er long before it became a channel on cable tv. His passion was helping others, and constantly would think of ways to make things better or why something wasn't working as it should. Bill was resilient, tough, frugal, and lived a simple life where he did what he said and expected the same from others. He bought things when he could pay cash for them and was always there for family whenever anyone needed anything. He was a creature of habit; he ate an apple a day in the morning with a cookie and 3 pieces of Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips before going to bed. The only branded product he liked was a can of coke paired with his son's cooking, which was always praised as "finger-licking good!"

Bill is survived by his son Lester and wife Eva with children: Jacob and Gabrielle; granddaughter, Sara and her husband Daniel Harvey, and their daughter, Elsie.

Bill was old fashioned and requested no visitation or funeral service, so we are honoring his wishes. Cremation services will be performed by Chapman Funeral Home in Hurricane, West Virginia.
