William Hartline Obituary

William Gail Hartline (Bill) passed away peacefully at his home in Lone Tree on February 7, 2025, at the age of 93.

Bill was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 5, 1931, and graduated from Tech High School in 1951. After graduation, he was drafted into the Marines and fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. He attended Iowa State University for two years, and then after his GI Bill ran out, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1959 as an Architectural Engineer. He belonged to Sigma Tau Engineering Honor Society.

After returning home from Korea, he married Lou Ann Armer in 1954, and they had three children.

Bill had a colorful and varied work life starting in Lincoln, Nebraska as a Structural Engineer for Davis & Wilson. Moving to Omaha, he was a Sales Engineer for Ideal Cement Stone Company and District Structural Engineer for Portland Cement Association. He moved to St. Louis with Wilson Concrete, and then to Denver in 1974 as Sales Engineer for Stanley Structures. In the late 1980's, he became a Real Estate Broker and a certified Financial Tax Advisor. Eventually, after moving to Summit County, he was the owner of two H & R Block tax franchises in Frisco and Vail, Colorado. He finally retired in 2016 at the age of 85.

His service included a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner and Toast Master. He also served as a volunteer for the Mile High Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, and the Exchange and Rotary Clubs.

Bill was a black diamond skier and liked to run, hike and bicycle. He often engaged in some extreme activities such as the Triple Bypass bike race five times, and running the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim three times. He loved to travel, and did so going all over the world, usually with his wife on a self-contained tandem bike. The two biked over 40 years. He often said, "I haven't been everywhere, but it is on my list!"

Bill is proceeded in death by his son, Daniel Hartline of Denver.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lou Ann of Lone Tree, son David (Susan) of Highlands Ranch, daughter, Deborah of Canon City, daughter-in-law Norma of Denver, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A private service will be held for the family at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Donations can be sent to the Chosin Few at chosinfew.org in Bill's name.
