William L. “Bill” Hartmeyer, 96, of Zanesville, died at 7:17 P.M. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Genesis Hospice Morrison-House, Zanesville. He was born June 3, 1928, in Zanesville, a son of the late Walter Lease and Mary (Foreman) Hartmeyer. Bill proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran and worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty years as well as working twenty years at the family-owned business, the Hartmeyer Market, as a meat cutter. He attended Coburn United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and golf. He was a handyman and could fix just about anything. In his younger years, he liked to play softball. He loved baseball and was an avid fan of Cleveland Baseball, the Cleveland Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-three years, Corrine J. (Kent) Hartmeyer, whom he married on June 13, 1951, at Fort Bennington, GA. right before he was deployed for thirteen months serving in the Korean War; four children, Chris (John) Briggs, William (Charlene) Hartmeyer, Stephen (Jude) Hartmeyer, Robert (Terry) Hartmeyer; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Friends and family may call from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Pastor Daryl Clark officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery with full Military Honors accorded to him by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam post 1058.
