GARRETT - William L. Helmick, 88, of Garrett, Indiana, died on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett.
He was born on May 9, 1937, in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, to William E. and Armena (Bowlen) Helmick.
William married Marilyn K. Payton on July 21, 1972, in Hamilton, Indiana, and she passed away on May 18, 2017.
He worked in production for Fruehauf and then retired from Moore's Printing Company, where he was a utility driver.
William was a former member of American Legion Post 178 of Garrett and a former member of Garrett Eagles Lodge #1357.
Surviving are five children, Debra K. and Steven Deetz, of Auburn, Michael W. and MJ Helmick, of Garrett, Sherri L. and Doug Kee, of Garrett, Pam Flores, of Garrett and Dixie and Casey Stafford, of Waterloo; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Rick B. and Beth Helmick, of Auburn; and other special family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jeff Caywood; and an infant grandson.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with Pastor Jeff Slater officiating.
Burial will take place at Cedar Creek Cemetery in rural Garrett.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m., on Monday, June 23, 2025, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Heartland Hospice, 2720 Dupont Commerce Court, #210, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
