William Michael “Mike” Herron, 69, passed away on 8/23/25 in Odessa, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday 8/27/25 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mike was born 6/10/1956 in Odessa to Bill & Bobbie Herron. He was born on his mother’s birthday and said that later as adults, it was always fun to share the day! He attended Burnet Elementary, Bonham Jr High, and graduated from Permian High School in 1974. He played 7 years of football mostly at defensive tackle and center! A 2 year starter on defense in 1972 and 1973 seasons including the 1972 State Championship team, an All State center in 1973, and during his senior season he was All District on offense and defense. Two years of college led to a football ending injury and disillusions. So the go to work period began. Carpentry and cabinetry taught skills that served well later in life. In 1978, Mike met his match, his rock, and his life long soul mate, Cindy. They met in Waco, melded in the Ozark’s of southern Missouri, then marrying and moving to Odessa in 1979. Mike then began a 40 year long career in sales, operations and safety in the oil fields of West Texas. Highlights included a 10 year service career in both sales and deep service rig operations with Well Tech inc! The luckiest break came from the darkest hours. Well Tech was failing. Mike was assigned to closure of outlying yards as a liason between the haz material removal groups, underground storage tanks companies and other environmental clean up orgs and Well Tech. That assignment led to a 37 year long career in Hazardous materials and oil and gas spill response, remediation and consultation, including 27 years as CEO of West Texas Environmental. Mike was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting and fishing as well as golf.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Herron.
Mike is survived by his wife Cindy. Son Corey and his wife Ashlei, and daughter Kameryn. Father and stepmother Bill and Judy. Granddaughter Kenzei and grandson Hunter.
