William Hetland Obituary

Published by Soderstrum Funeral Home - Story City on Oct. 12, 2010.
William Edward Hetland came to the home of Manley Levi and Blanche Genora (Ness) Hetland six weeks after his birth on January 21, 1928. Bill grew up on the family farm just east of Randall, Iowa. His parents lived on the farm and Bill helped his dad with the farming. Bill and Marguerite Thelma Auestad were married June 20, 1948 in Hardin Country Church in rural Garden City. They lived in a little house on the farm until Bill’s parents moved to Story City in 1959. Bill and Marguerite moved their family to the big house and farmed the home place for many years. While farming, Bill also worked at Auestad’s Grocery and Locker in Garden City, at the Canning Factory in Roland, Randall Lumber, and for Richard Johnson Construction. Bill and Marguerite moved to Story City in 1989 and lived at 309 Grand for many years and in the fall of 2006 moved to 1039 8th Street. Bill enjoyed helping with chores on the farm and sitting out front of the house watching people go by and kids playing in the park. In March of 2010 they moved to 709 Broad and enjoyed the condo life with no yard work. Family was always so important to Bill. They enjoyed going out to eat with their friends and seeing all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Marguerite of Story City; his three children: son Craig Hetland and his wife Sue of Pella, Iowa and their four children Amy and her husband Eric Recker and their two children Blake and Jace, Derek Hetland and his wife Liz of Urbandale, Iowa and their two children Madison and Macy, Kevin Hetland and his wife Amanda of West Des Moines, Iowa and their son Lucas and his daughter Norah, and Dawn Roucoulet of Metter, Georgia; daughter Vicki Hetland of Story City; and son Randy Hetland and his wife Kris of rural Story City and their two children Kacie and her husband Cheyne Hesse and their daughter Jillian of Colfax, Iowa, and Andrew Hetland and his wife Meghan of rural Story City. He also survived by his brothers-in-law Virgil Auestad and his wife Karen of Randall, Roger Auestad and his wife Charlotte of Story City, and Lloyd Cross of Sacramento, California; sister-in-law Julie and her husband Jack Roney of Holiday Island, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Marilyn Cross.
