It is with profound grief and sadness to announce that William J. "Bill" Hickey, 65, of East Hampton, CT, lost a courageous 18 month battle with cancer and entered his eternal rest on April 4, 2024.
Bill was born on December 26, 1958, in Manchester, Connecticut, one of five children of Raymond and Mary Hickey. Bill grew up in Manchester and worked for 40 years in various technical leadership roles for Aetna, finally retiring in 2022. Bill always had a boundless energy and passion for life, was an avid motorcyclist, snowboarder, hiker, and golfer, and was forever running to the Home Depot so he could putter around his beloved "Hog Hill" home. Bill always made time to attend the sporting events of his beloved stepchildren and grandchildren, and be it rain or shine, Bill was always there to support and cheer on his family.
Bill leaves behind his life partner and the love of his life, Sherry Pohlmann DiBella, her son Shawn and wife Nikki, daughter Shalynn and husband Brian, and their children Tyler, Bella, and Grace, who adored Bill who treated them as his own grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother Tim Hickey and his wife Patricia Lindsay-Hickey of Florida, as well as brothers Daniel Hickey and Chris Hickey of Connecticut. Bill was predeceased by his sister Jean.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory can be made to The Tunnels for Towers Foundation.

Dear Sherry and family and the entire Hickey family, spent many years working with Bill at Aetna. Bill was a gentle, kind, funny, giving, loving, humble man and I remember how happy he was when he entered his relationship with Sherry, he adored her. My heart is heavy as I process this news I learned today. Knowing Bill, he will be sending many signs from the spiritual realm. I wish you all peace.

I worked with 3 of the boys, Tim, Bill and Chris during my tenure at Aetna. I had the pleasure of working with Bill for several years. His was that cubicle where I would go whenever I needed a good story. Truly a gracious human. Love and good journey.
