William Hiney IV

William "Joey" Hiney IV, 69, born July 2, 1956, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on December 22, 2025. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love of his family.

Joey grew up in Houston, Texas, but found his roots when the family bought land in the Thorndale area. Joey graduated from Thorndale High School in 1974, and went on to follow in his dad's footsteps in the Sheet Metal trade. He retired from Dynamic Systems, Inc., in 2022, after 25 years of service, where he was known as a leader for his mechanical smarts and wisdom.

His true passion however was life on the ranch. He was a championship roper in his prime and led many young cowboys and cowgirls to push for their dreams as he had. He enjoyed hosting and sponsoring charity events at his roping arena including: The Maggie Schneider Memorial, The Relay for Life, Mike McCoy Family Benefit, and others.

The life and home he and Phyllis shared was his greatest joy, whether being on the tractor, working cattle, or fixing whatever was broken. While he preferred to be on his land over seeking out a large circle of friends, those that knew him well saw a Christian spirit and a kind heart that gave of himself to others.

Joey was preceded in death by and reunited in Heaven with his father, William "Bill" Hiney III, (1998), and his mother, Sybil Hiney ( just 19 days ago on December 3, 2025).

Joey is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Phyllis, and adored step-daughter Lani Morton; additionally, sister, Sue Gove, and brother Charlie Hiney and wife Melissa; sister-in-law Kathy Culpepper and husband Wayne; nephews, Wade Hiney and wife Nia, Rick Gove and wife Ann, Tyler Hiney and wife Meg, Derek Gove and wife Shannon, , Max Gove and wife Shanna, Trey Johnson, Garrett Meyer, and nieces Hailey Gove and Tassie Garza and husband Vincent, along with great nephews and nieces, Kade, Emily, Lola, Noel, Sadie, Jane, Ander, Molly, Rose, Kyla, Chanley, and Wrenleigh.

The family is deeply grateful to the dear friends who have provided love and support throughout Joey's illness- particularly Johnny and Noni Andrews- we are overwhelmed by the generous and selfless gift of your time and compassion.

Funeral services will be at 11a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with visitation to take place that day at 10a.m. Daniel Garrison will be officiating the service.

Graveside burial will immediately follow the service at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery, Thorndale.

Pallbearers: nephews Wade Hiney, Vincent Garza, Rick Gove, Tyler Hiney, Derek Gove, Max Gove, Daryl Robilio and Kenny Mingus.

Honorary Pallbearers: Johnny Andrews, Robert Reese, Jason Fisher, Bubba Hoffman, Bobby Scroggins, Trey Gilchrist, Harry Jordan, and Matt Mayes.
