Bill and Rita were like second parents to me as a kid growing up in New Jersey, and I often think of Bill's kind gentle ways, and that he always had a smile for everyone. My deepest sympathy to Laura, Cliff and Suzanne, and their familes.

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing.
I will always remember him as the most gentle, loving and understanding member of my family, and I have particular nostalgia for his visits during my childhood to our family farm in Toms River. My deepest sympathies are with you, Suzanne, Cliff, and Laura, and with your children as well.

I was a close personal friend of Bill and Rita since 1958. To be around them and see and share in the love and respect they had for each other was one of the joys of my life. Bill was all the things that his obituary said about him. I never met another man like him. The world will be a sadder place now that he's gone. However his memory will live on, not just in the hearts of his family, but also in the hearts of all of those whose lives he touched throughout his long life.

We were close friends of your mother and dad. We shared concerts, bridge, and needlepoint with Rita. We're now living in CA and just heard of Bill's death. Please accept our most sincere sympathy. He was a very close friend --as was your mom. Lots of love

I worked with Bill Hirschman at Disability Determination Services for many years. On the days that he was on the schedule to come into the office as a psychological consultant, we would talk and joke. There was something about him I could never put into words until I read his obituary today. "Gentle kindness" that is mentioned in his obituary is that personality trait for which I was at a loss for words. What better legacy could one have. Bill, as he made me call him (not Dr. Hirschman!), was truly a man of gentle kindness.
